5-Vehicle Car Accident in San Carlos Injures 7

July 22, 2011, San Carlos, Calif. --  Several people have been seriously injured in a series of chain-reaction collisions in a San Diego accident that took place in the late afternoon on Monday, July 18, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. 

The accident was reported just after 4 p.m. and took place on the 8700 block of Lake Murray Boulevard.

Witnesses say that the chain of crashes included as many as 5 vehicles. San Diego Police Department's Lieutenant Andra Brown said that of the motorists and car occupants involved in the accident, 7 were injured. At least 3 children had to be air-lifted to a nearby trauma center at Children's Hospital.

Police are still investigating the accident and it's not readily apparent what caused the series of collisions, but witnesses have said that one of the drivers involved had been speeding and driving recklessly just before the accidents took place.
